‘Virtual Wall’ Provides Venue for Personal 9/11 Remembrances
(09/14/2011)During the morning of September 9, CBP Commissioner Alan D. Bersin and former commissioners Robert C. Bonner and W. Ralph Basham left their mark on CBP’s Virtual Wall of Remembrance, part of the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Their messages of gratitude and pride in CBP and America were reflective of hundreds left by other employees later that day and on September 12. The virtual wall was part of the “CBP Remembers 9/11” exhibition in the main lobby of CBP headquarters in Washington, D.C.

| | | This electronic “graffiti wall” captured reflections of HQ employees and visitors to the exhibition and allowed them to share their thoughts with their coworkers. Many wrote messages of remembrance, while others simply signed their name, indicating that they too will never forget. Since September 11, 2001, technology has become a significant forum for the sharing of information, thoughts, and emotions. It is with this knowledge that CBP’s 9/11 Commemoration Planning Committee established the 9/11 Virtual Wall of Remembrance in recognition of the significance of electronic communication for sharing lasting messages. —Dorie R.
