CBP Field Operations Academy Factsheet
(03/26/2007)The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations Academy provides critical training to support CBP’s priority anti-terrorism mission of preventing terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States. The CBP Field Operations Academy continues to provide training that enables CBP to carry out traditional missions, including the interdiction of illegal narcotics and other contraband; refusing entry to people attempting illegal entry or who pose a risk to the U.S.; protecting American agriculture and our environment from harmful pests and diseases; protecting the American economy with the collection of import duties; and, enforcing hundreds of trade, immigration, agriculture and state and local laws at our borders. The CBP Field Operations Academy trained nearly 6,500 students nationwide in FY 2004 and over 8,000 students in FY 2005. The CBP Field Operations Academy provides approximately 40 different courses each year nationwide, including basic and advanced training for CBP Officers and Agriculture Specialists; basic and advanced training for Import and Entry Specialists and other trade specialists; and advanced training for other occupational specialties throughout the CBP workforce. The CBP Field Operations Academy was established with the creation of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in March 2003. One of the primary missions of the CBP Field Operations Academy is to train and prepare CBP Officers and Agriculture Specialists for international airports, seaports and land border crossings, as well as assignments worldwide. The CBP Field Operations Academy developed the curriculum for the CBP Officer basic course by incorporating topics and training from the former U.S. Customs Service, U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. By melding training topics into a single, seamless course that refines all aspects of the CBP Officer duties, the CBP Officer basic course provides the foundation necessary for new Officers to perform their critical anti-terrorism mission alongside their traditional border enforcement missions. The CBP Field Operations Academy is located at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia. |
