Corporal Aristides Sosa painitngCORPORAL SOSA and the DISTINGUISHED SERVICE CROSS: On December 9, 1967, Corporal Sosa started his tour in the Republic of Vietnam in Company A, 65th Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. Barely three months later during the Tet Offensive, Sosa was part of a four-man engineer team accompanying an infantry unit on a reconnaissance-in-force operation near Lai Theiu in Gia Dinh Province. Enemy forces attacked these soldiers with grenades and small arms fire. In the ensuing engagement, a massive explosion left Sosa wounded and lying in pain in a ditch. Cpl. Aristides Sosa, Jr., was killed in action on March 2, 1968. His Distinguished Service Cross was awarded posthumously on December 16, 1968.> Read more.

When the Mississippi River floods of 1882 forced thousands from their homes, Corps of Engineers steamboats ferried scores of people to safety and delivered tons of desperately needed supplies to stranded refugees.

STEM outreach program impacts students of all ages

Teacher involvements have been one of the keys to the STEM program’s success. These activities, which make optimal use of vendors who specialize in STEM education training programs, work closely with Department of Defense laboratories across the nation to integrate science and engineers into the training process, providing instruction on modern learning tools and strategies so that teachers and S&Es located near DOD labs can successfully work together.

TULSA, Okla. - Two members of the Tulsa District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Office of Counsel staff are winners of USACE Chief Counsel Honorary Awards for 2012. The prestigious Keystone Award and E. Manning Seltzer Award were presented to Raye Thornton and Stephanie R. Darr in a ceremony at Tulsa District Headquarters Oct. 5 by District Commander Col. Michael Teague.
