Reporting of FDA Inventions
The Federal Technology Transfer Act of 1986 makes it the responsibility of each technical employee, as well as the Agency's management structure, to develop opportunities to transfer technology. One technology transfer mechanism is the patenting and licensing of FDA inventions, which are owned by the federal government. Patenting and licensing are used to help ensure the federal technologies are fully developed and made available to the public.
In working to meet the distinct missions of the Centers and Offices, FDA scientists have discovered and developed a wide range of technologies. Please visit the NIH Office of Technology Transfer website for a list of technologies that are available for licensing. For more information please contact Alice Welch, FDA Technology Development Officer.
