Bangor, Maine:   United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that Christopher McBride, 39, of Bangor, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine to three months in prison to be followed by two years of supervised release. McBride pleaded guilty on September 16, 2011, to theft of mail by a U.S. postal employee.

Court records reveal that in 2010, McBride was employed at the U.S. Postal Service Eastern Maine Processing and Distribution Center (EMPDC) in Hampden, Maine. Between June 2010 and November 2010, the defendant took over 1000 hydrocodone pills from the mail at the EMPDC. The pills were sent in packages from a Veterans Affairs facility and were destined for veterans living in Eastern Maine. The defendant used the stolen pills and shared them with a co-worker.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General and the United States Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General.
