Hidalgo International Bridge Customs and Border Protection Arrest Hidalgo Man Wanted for Aggravated Robbery

(Friday, September 21, 2012)

Hidalgo, Texas— U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Hidalgo International Bridge recently arrested a 41-year-old man from Hidalgo, Texas wanted on aggravated robbery charges.

“Another fugitive from justice has been detected and apprehended by our frontline officers because of our ability to examine everyone that is seeking to enter our country,” said Efrain Solis Jr., Port Director Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “This person had been on the run for a long time but will now enter into judicial proceedings for his alleged actions.”

On Thursday afternoon, September 20, Rafael A. Uresti arrived at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge from Mexico as a pedestrian. A CBP officer queried the subject through CBP and law enforcement databases and discovered that Uresti might be a possible match to a warrant from the McAllen, Texas Police Department. Further checks revealed that he was an exact match for an aggravated robbery charge dating back to 1996. Uresti was allegedly involved in an attempted automobile theft in McAllen where he allegedly stabbed the owner of the vehicle who confronted him in the process.

Uresti was released to the custody of the McAllen Police Department and subsequently taken to the Hidalgo County Jail where he will wait for court proceedings.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
