Wifredo Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, David W. Bourne, Office of Criminal Investigations, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Chadwick Wagner, Chief of the Hollywood Police Department, announced today that Donald Kader, 33 of Miami, was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 24 months’ for possession with the intent to distribute steroids.

            Kader, a former federal corrections officer for 8 years, was arrested on August 5, 2011 when Hollywood Police Department detectives witnessed what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction occur at the trunk of a car parked at an International House of Pancakes. Kader consented to a search of his car that led to the discovery of approximately 28,264 pills and 249 liquid vials found by a FDA lab to be steroids or other drugs not authorized for human consumption, an unloaded AK 47 assault rifle with 2 empty ammunition clips and 56 rounds of ammunition, a loaded Glock .40 caliber pistol and $2,821.00. The FDA was contacted to help process the evidence and pursue federal charges.

            Mr. Ferrer commended the cooperation exhibited by the FDA and the Hollywood Police Department as an example of the favorable results that can come from the coordinated efforts of federal and local law enforcement agencies.
