[ - ] Am having major issues with most of the parents I have come in contact with at the park/playground. Today, DS(18 months old) toddled over to a girl (about 4) and took the pail she was using in the sandbox. I see this, walk over and tell DS that's not his and give it back to the girl and wait your turn. The little girl whined claiming "It's MIIIIIINNNNEEEE" and goes back to putting sand in the pail. DS walks over to the slide, but he walks back, takes the same pail which was still left untouched by the little girl and she takes another pail, fills it with sand on throws it at my son. DS didn't react, he was sorta stunned. I come in closer and dust him off while the little girl starts whining louder. Meantime, her mom is literally sitting right there watching this all go down and not once corrects her daughter. I need to learn skills fast on how to deal with rude parents and rude kids! 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Well it's all the playgrounds around my hood. If my son does something that is obviously wrong, I clear it up and apologize. He's too young for me to let loose, but obviously at 3,4,5 the kids are left to their own devices and I guess it amazes me at how bratty and rude they are! That's all - I really feel am bringing up DS with integrity and respect. I don't feel that's the same for many of the kids/parents I come across! [ Reply | More ]

Pretend you don't realize the mom is there and tell DD not to throw sand. That's what you would do if parents werent around and, in this case, mom might as well not have been there. [ Reply | More ]

I have a 4 yo and would never let throwing sand at a baby be tolerated. Same time, it was the girls bucket and you should have stopped ds from taking it or left the playground. [ Reply | More ]

We are not exclusive, but he specifically told me he was not seeing a certain woman from our circle, and I am almost positive he had lied, and they are still dating. OP: don't want to out myself with exact details but (1) I knew all about that woman from him- we are part of the same circle, and (2) I think they are still seeing each other due to putting some facts together, and doing some snooping around through mutual friends. I had already asked him if they were still dating, and he denied it. I just learned the new information today. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] What do you do when crying it out just is not working. Six month old was doing great and then totally regressed and now wakes up every night at 4 am screaming for over an hour before finally falling back asleep. I've tried going in at increasing intervals and just letting her cry without going in at all but it has been a week and has not become any better... Please help! 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

She might be hungry at 4. Feed her and try to eliminate this feeding in 2 more months. [ Reply | More ]

^^Also keep in mind that she may be going through a growth spurt and need to eat more, which is why it seems like she is regressing. [ Reply | More ]

Go in, pick up, quieten her down, then lay back down and say good night. wait 10 mins and repeat. Some people so don't pick up but rub back or something. That works with some kids, my dd would scream bloody murder if i did not pick her. [ Reply | More ]

OMG. Cry it out is not good. In fact, babies held an extra two hours a day cry less because they have their needs for comfort and security taken care of. Look, I know some very well meaning people say "Oh the baby will get spoiled and want it all the time if you pick them up" but really, they can't possibly be spoiled within the first sixth months of life. In fact Romanian orphan babies developed Reactive Attachment Disorder from not being held enough because there were not enough caregivers to develop a bond with the baby. Please cuddle and hold the baby as much as possible. You can buy a baby swaddle carrier to wear and carry your baby. Please give as much love and attention to your baby as possible and you should notice them becoming more satisfied and content because they feel safe and secure. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] What would you do if after 15 years together, your DH suddenly told you he really didn't like something about your makeup, the way you dress, or your hair, and never did? Like, "I've always thought you wore too much makeup but never said anything about it" or "I have never liked women with long nails" or "I have never liked your wearing headbands, it looks too prissy" ... choose from any of the above. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Exactly. What's the context for telling you he doesn't like the way you wear your hair and never has or something along those lines? Why does he feel the need to "unburden" himself. Sounds like he's being a a**hole. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I bought a little sequined evening purse at an annual assistance league-type rummage sale a week ago and sent it to my 6 year old niece for her dress-up collection. When she unzipped the inside zipper she found a $100 bill all folded up! My sister immediately called me to confirm it wasn't meant as a gift. She explained to my niece that the previous owner obviously forgot the money was in the purse when she donated it and after a bit of hysteria by niece ( why can't I keeeeeeeeep it??). The rummage sale was so enormous that it would be impossible to find the owner of the donated purse. Sister wants to take niece Toys For Tots shopping next month, does this sound like good karma? 13 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

The woman who inadvertently left the money in the bag meant to donate her goods to that particular charity, you should give it to them. If sis insists on T4T, not a huge thing, just let her deal with it. [ Reply | More ]

If you tried to find the owner and could not, I'd vote for letting niece keep half of it and having her spend the other half on toys for tots. I mean if she found a 20 on the ground with no owner in site, finders keepers right? This is the same sort of thing- let her get a little thrill out of being lucky. AFTER looking for the owner of course. [ Reply | More ]

I am totally not surprised at this; if the rummage sale was enormous, there is no way to find the owner at this point. At least it's not $1000. Definitely an opportunity for a lesson, though. I was on a flight earlier this year where I was passing money back and forth to my teens across the aisle for their snacks and headphones, and getting change in a lot of ones/euros (whatever) and putting it back into my purse while the cart was at our row. At one point someone pointed down to the floor to a bunch of money and asked if it was mine, and I thought I had somehow not put it into my purse as I'd thought and said "thank you, yes, it must me." When I arrived home, I went through my purse and there was WAY more money than there should have been, and I think the flight attendant dropped the cash while at my row. No way to account for it, no way to know, I just kept it, it was around like 50 Euro and 50 dollars. OK I guess this belongs in a "have you ever stolen anything" thread. [ Reply | More ]

OP here: no way to find owner, this is an annual sale that's so enormous it's in a rented warehouse and people line up for hours to get inside. I thought of just sending the cash to the organization (cross country) but sister thinks it would be more meaningful for my niece to do the Toys For Tots shopping. A few years ago I found three twenties wadded up on the sidewalk in front of the jam packed Herald Square Macy's just before Christmas. I yelled out to everybody near me " did anybody drop anything!?" No luck, of course, and I felt compelled to drop it in the nearby Salvation Army kettle even tho the devil on my shoulder was urging me to spend it, LOL. [ Reply | More ]

I've got yours in reverse: 10yo dd and 6yo ds. Both want to be vampires. DD wants to be a glamorous goth vampire (shocker) and ds going for your basic count dracula type. We hit Goodwill and got them each (new) capes for $2 a piece, and found a fun old dress for dd that I'm going to shorten. Then we'll do the standard makeup/fake blood and dd has a long black wig. They have the best patterns at fabric stores! DC is too young, but I would be all over some of those costumes: vegetables, animals, etc. I think I'll buy some patterns for future Halloweens. In my day, my mother used to wrap me up in Ace bandages and I'd go as a mummy. Kids are more sophisticated now. [ Reply | More ]

My dd is doing something entirely different, but have to share that my 14 yo doesn't do Halloween but begged for a "Ted" costume. I have never even seen that movie (though have heard of it) ... the costume was $80 and my DH and older sons have been laughing their heads off for days now when 14 yo goes around the house dressed as Ted at the most random moments. $$ well spent to see everyone laughing so hard.
