This issue of MDS-Subjects (volume 15, issue 49) contains more than the usual number of records. Approximately 600 subject authority records with the heading Afro-Americans and subject headings that included the adjectival qualifier Afro-American were recently changed to African Americans and African American.
Effectively immediately, LC catalogers will be assigning only the new forms African Americansand African American as subject headings in current bibliographic records.
Projects will be undertaken to update bibliographic records with the old forms of headings during 2001. Subject headings in individual bibliographic records will be changed on a case-by-case basis as the records are updated for any reason.
