About us

Storify helps its users tell stories by curating social media.

We launched our private beta as a finalist at TechCrunch Disrupt in September 2010, and won the Startup Accelerator at South by Southwest in 2011. Our public beta went live in late April 2011.

We're based in San Francisco in a newly remodeled loft office in the heart of the city.

Xavier DammanLinkedIn

Co-founder and CEO

Xavier moved from Belgium in the summer of 2009 with the vision that there are voices on social media that deserve to be published on main stream media. This vision is the foundation of Storify.

He founded Tribal in 1999, a site that gathered student content from around Belgium that was published in a 30,000-circulation magazine distributed nationwide to high schools. He built content partnerships with leading brands such as Microsoft and other Belgian companies. Xavier earned a master's degree with distinction in computer science from Belgium's Leuven University.

Burt HermanLinkedIn

Co-founder (Business development, partnerships and publisher relations)

Burt is the founder of Hacks/Hackers, a worldwide organization bringing together journalists and technologists. He previously reported from around the world for The Associated Press over a 12-year career, heading AP's office in Korea and founding a bureau covering the five countries of former Soviet Central Asia. Among other assignments worldwide, he was an embedded reporter with the U.S. Marines in the Iraq war, covered Afghanistan after Sept. 11, traveled several times to reclusive North Korea, covered the Asian tsunami and Pakistan's nuclear program.

Burt was a Knight journalism fellow at Stanford University, a program for distinguished journalists selected for a year of study, where he also received his B.A. with honors in political science and M.A. in Russian and East European studies.

Bo Hee KimLinkedIn

User advocate

Bo was our Community Manager but now she's our User Advocate. She still manages our social media accounts, so if someone is being nice to you from our Twitter account, it's her (and if not, it's obviously someone else). Bo takes much the feedback we get and tries to make some sense out of it, whether it's by asking to tweak features on the site or sending bug reports to our engineering team. She dabbles in mobile for fun.

Vincent BattagliaLinkedIn

Product Manager / Engineer

Vincent is another Belgian at Storify. He has studied computer science at Mons University in Belgium. One of his first jobs was at Emakina, the biggest web agency in Belgium. After that, he was co-founder and CTO of 1MD, a creative agency which has won numerous awards, including 3 Favourite Website Awards (FWA), in less than a year! At 1MD, Vincent worked directly with clients like Coca-Cola, Activision, Volkswagen, Greenpeace and Kia Motors. Vincent was also one of the co-founders of WooRank, a website analysis tool used by people all around the world. He created the first version of the website, from front-end in HTML/CSS/JavaScript, to back-end in PHP, using more than 50 different APIs. Vincent is also an epicurean; he really loves good food and travels. In addition, he’s an amateur soccer player and passionate biker.

Frederic JacobsLinkedIn

Engineer

Frederic is based in Switzerland. He moved there from Belgium to study Computer Science at the Swiss Institute of Technology. He works on Storify projects since summer 2012 and enjoys staying in San Francisco during University breaks. His main area of expertise is iOS development but likes learning new stuff while playing with other parts of the stack. Previously to joining Storify, he worked as a contractor and open-source developer. He also co-founded two companies Evolucix and movies.io. During his free time, he loves taking pictures and traveling.

Ben ClemensLinkedIn

Designer

Ben has worked as a designer since olden days, when he made wireframes with real wire, carving his tabs and buttons from hardwood. He worshiped at the altar of The New York Times, sweated it out at Razorfish, toiled in the salt mines of Yahoo, and did piecework for Current TV and Blurb. Complaints should go to his direct supervisor Sarah (8).

Ryan StubblefieldLinkedIn

Lead Engineer

Ryan leads engineering at Storify. A life-long engineer, coding since the age of 12, he makes new things, pwns n00bs, and generally fixes stuff (that other people broke, of course). He studied Computer Science and Philosophy at Cal Poly SLO, then spent a decade at Adobe working on typography in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. Recent years have found him developing social games at ngmoco:), social media at Context Optional, and lots of iOS development for dozens of small companies and a couple large ones like Ancestry. And if you hear dubstep in the Storify office, its his latest DJ mix seeping out of his headphones.
