Tie One on for Safety^®
Infographic Challenge

Drunk driving is the most frequently committed violent crime in the United States, killing 10,228 in 2010 and injuring about 345,000 more.  Mothers Against Drunk Driving is working to eliminate this violent crime and works to raise awareness of this issue around the end of the year when drunk driving is, sadly, more common. We do this primarily through our Tie One on for Safety public awareness program.

This year, we want you to provide an interesting, engaging, and compelling look at government drunk driving statistics in support of the program.  The winner of this Challenge will be publicly recognized along with their infographic in MADD’s national Tie One on for Safety press release, issued in November 2012.

The following criteria are what the judges will use to evaluate each entry:

a) Use of government data. Judges will consider the mission support of each Submission in terms of whether data is used accurately, the extent to which open government data is used with at least one data source from safety.data.gov, and whether the infographic increases understanding of drunk driving issues.

  (Entrants are welcome to use any other open government data source as well.)

b) Creativity. Entries must creatively incorporate their message into their Submissions. Judges will consider the creativity of each Submission in terms of whether and to what extent the Entry grabs the viewer’s attention in a unique and memorable way, whether and to what extent the infographic is understandable to the general public, and whether and to what extent the infographic illuminates aspects of the drunk driving problem.

c) Quality. Judges will consider the quality of each Submission in terms of overall aesthetics, whether the infographic as submitted can be utilized in multiple arenas (social media, online outlets, etc.), and whether the design of the infographic supports and enhances the message and content.

Challenge starts at noon Central Time, September 14th, 2012, and ends at 11:59 PM Central Time, October 15th, 2012. All entries must be received by 11:59 PM Central Time, October 15th, 2012.
