Council Designee: Nicole Y. Lamb-Hale, Deputy General Counsel, U.S. Department of Commerce

Nicole Y. Lamb-Hale is the Deputy General Counsel of the United States Department of Commerce. In this role, she assists the General Counsel as the chief legal officer for the Department and legal advisor to the Secretary, Secretarial Officers and other officers of the Department, including heads of operating units. Prior to joining the Obama Administration, Nicole was the Managing Partner of the Detroit office of the law firm of Foley & Lardner LLP where she specialized in business restructuring.

Ms. Lamb-Hale served as vice-chair of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority, by appointment of Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. She also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Leadership Detroit; and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts. She is a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; a member of The Links Incorporated; and a member of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. In addition, Ms. Lamb-Hale served as a member of President Obama’s National Finance Committee and was a Co-Chair and Deputy General Counsel of the Michigan Campaign for Change.

Ms. Lamb-Hale has been a frequent lecturer on restructuring matters with a particular emphasis in recent years on the automotive industry. She received her B.A. with high honors from the University of Michigan in 1988 and her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1991.
