Air Research
Sustainable Solutions for Air Quality
To reduce or eliminate the emission of toxic air pollutants, EPA is applying green chemistry design, engineering and process changes in industry. Research is being conducted to develop sustainable alternatives for existing or emerging halogenated solvents used in industry. Synthesis reports summarizing results and decision support tools are being developed for use by industry and government.
Green chemistry is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances. Green chemists use a set of guiding principles and methodologies for reducing pollution at its source, the most desirable form of pollution prevention.
