EPA Milestones
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was established in 1970, soon after the first Earth Day. Since that time, drinking water has been made cleaner with the passage of the Safe Drinking Water Act; our oceans have been protected by banning the dumping of sewage sludge and industrial waste; and communities are being safe-guarded by critical health standards to reduce smog. Explore major events in our environmental history since the creation of EPA through this interactive timeline.
