CAMEO: Downloading, Installing, and Running ALOHA

Downloading ALOHA version 5.4.3

Note: The installed program includes an extensive on-screen help system (rather than a separate manual). However, you can also download the ALOHA ExamplesExit EPA (PDF) document (54 pp, 1.5 MB, About PDF) to see three step-by-step fictional examples.

System Requirements: The Windows version requires Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.  The Macintosh version requires OS 10.5.8 or greater.

Installing ALOHA

If you have a previous version of ALOHA:

It is best to install the new ALOHA application in the same folder as your previous version. This will replace the old application with the new one, while still maintaining all of your settings. Any chemical information that you have added to the chemical library will not be saved and you will need to re-enter that information.

On a Windows PC

Once you have downloaded the installation program, double-click the ALOHA application file, then follow the directions you'll see on your screen.

On a Macintosh

Once you have downloaded the installation file (dmg file), the installation folder should open automatically. (If it doesn't open automatically, browse to the dmg file and open it.) Follow the directions you see in the window: Read the file "Saving and Restoring your ALOHA Data.pdf", then drag the ALOHA Folder to your applications folder.

Starting ALOHA

Note: For additional information on using ALOHA (such as FAQs, a Level of Concern guide, tools for importing threat zones into Esri's ArcGIS products, and the Ask. Dr. ALOHA articles), see the ALOHA pages Exit EPA on the NOAA Office of Response and Restoration site.

On a Windows PC

To start ALOHA, open the Start menu, then point to Programs, and then click ALOHA.

On a Macintosh

Double-click on the ALOHA program icon inside the "ALOHA Folder" (which is inside the Applications folder or wherever you installed it).

Getting Help

You can report software bugs or obtain additional assistance by emailing RMPRC@epacdx.net, or by calling the CAMEO help desk at (703) 227-7650.

What's New in ALOHA Version 5.4.3?

  • Updated chemical library with new AEGLs and PACs. (The PACs dataset is a hierarchy-based system of the three common public exposure guideline systems: AEGLs, ERPGs, and TEELs. The latest PACs dataset is a major update: it includes the latest AEGLs and a significant update to the TEELs based on recommendations from an outside review committee. The TEEL developers have significantly modified the methodology for developing TEELs, which has resulted in one or more TEEL values changing for approximately 80 percent of the chemicals in the PACs dataset.)
  • Minor changes and bug fixes.

To learn about significant changes in each version of ALOHA, see the ALOHA Development History Exit EPA page on the NOAA Office of Response and Restoration site.
