The Legal Aid Society of Hawaii is a public interest, not-for-profit law firm whose mission is to achieve fairness and justice through legal advocacy, outreach and education for those in need.
Established in 1950, Legal Aid has ten offices statewide, and over 90 staff members (attorneys, paralegals, and administrative personnel) all dedicated to achieving Legal Aid’s vision of “Building a Just Society.” Legal Aid responds to inquiries from approximately 20,000 individuals each year, and an estimated annual total 9,500 of those individuals receive legal services ranging from advice and counsel to full representation.
Legal Aid is a proud member of the Access to Justice Hui, which released the first civil legal needs assessment in 14 years.

Aloha and welcome to the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii’s website. Legal Aid has been servicing the people of Hawaii since 1950, and is dedicated to providing free legal services for Hawaii’s low-income communities.
With ten offices on each of the major Hawaiian islands, Legal Aid is the largest legal service provider in the state. Though the effort to increase access to justice for all Hawaii’s people can be challenging, Legal Aid strives to give you as much information as possible to help you even when our staff cannot.
This site is designed to provide you with suggested information about legal issues so that you may be able to solve your legal concerns on your own. We have links and brochures to help you Housing, Fair Housing, Consumer, Family, and Public Benefits. If there is something specific you are looking for, please try using the “search button” at the top of the main page.
You may also find information about our eligibility requirements for free legal services from Legal Aid and how to contact our staff to receive assistance.
Please be aware that Legal Aid has seen an increase in the demand for our free services over the last few months, but do not let that deter you from contacting us. Just be advised that, due to the significant rise in the demand for our help, you may face additional wait times when calling.
You may, however, use the information on this site and our sister site www.lawhelp.org/hi in a number of ways, 24-hours a day.

The purpose of the intake Hotline is to provide easy access to services at the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii. Primarily, our clients can apply for services through our toll-fee state-wide phone service, which operates during the following times:
MONDAY - FRIDAY
9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the morning, and
1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon
Walk in services are available in the Honolulu Office only Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
