Career Paths at GAO
Information Technology Analysts
Information technology analysts participate in evaluations of the federal government's $65 billion annual investment in modernizing information systems, focusing on agencies' acquisition, management, and operations of information systems supporting federal programs. These information technology analysts also review systems architecture, hardware/software capacity and adequacy, network management, business process reengineering practices, telecommunications issues, and computer security.
An information technology analyst must have an undergraduate or graduate degree that includes 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of coursework in a combination of business information technology, computer science, information assurance, mathematics, or statistics. Entry information technology analysts are assigned to GAO's Professional Development Program in the Information Technology team.
