Morocco

Morocco-FlagThe United States-Morocco Free Trade Agreement entered into force on January 1, 2006, eliminating duties on more than 95 percent of all goods and services. In addition to key U.S. export sectors gaining immediate duty-free access to the Moroccan market, the Agreement includes commitments by Morocco for increased regulatory transparency and the protection of intellectual property rights.

U.S.-Morocco Trade Facts

Morocco is currently our 67th largest goods trading partner with $3.9 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2011. Goods exports totaled $2.9 billion; Goods imports totaled $995 million. The U.S. goods trade surplus with Morocco was $1.9 billion in 2011.

Exports

Morocco was the United States' 55th largest goods export market in 2011.

U.S. goods exports to Morocco in 2011 were $2.9 billion, up 47.0% ($916 million) from 2010, and up 446% from 2000. U.S. exports to Morocco are up 495% from 2005 (Pre-FTA).

The top export categories (2-digit HS) in 2011 were: Mineral Fuel ($934 million), Aircraft ($448 million), Fats and Oils (soybean oil) ($340 million), Food Waste (soybean residues) ($293 million), and Cereals (wheat and corn) ($142 million).

U.S. exports of agricultural products to Morocco totaled $930 million in 2011. Leading categories include: soybean oil ($318 million), and soybean meal ($225 million), and coarse grains ($82 million).

Imports

Morocco was the United States' 80th largest supplier of goods imports in 2011.

U.S. goods imports from Morocco totaled $995 million in 2011, a 45.2% increase ($310 million) from 2010, and up 124% from 2000. U.S. imports from Morocco are up 123% from 2005 (Pre-FTA)

The five largest import categories in 2011 were: Salt, Sulfur, Earth and Stone ($302 million), Electrical Machinery ($131 million), Fertilizers ($116 million), Woven Apparel ($66 million), and Fats and Oils (olive oil) ($65 million).

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Morocco totaled $169 million in 2011.

Leading categories include: vegetable oils ($65 million), and processed fruits and vegetables ($51 million).

Trade Balance

The U.S. goods trade surplus with Morocco was $1.9 billion in 2011, a 48.0% increase ($606 million) over 2010.
