Celebrate, Reflect, and Promote your Library

Be it for one year or one hundred years, anniversaries provide excellent opportunities to promote your library and the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) with public displays and events. They are a time to celebrate and a time to reflect past achievements, recognize present achievements, and announce or re-emphasize future plans.

GPO is proud to serve these libraries in their long-term commitment to making Federal Government information available to the public through the FDLP. GPO has developed and collected a variety of tips and suggestions in order to help your depository celebrate your milestone, reflect on your library’s evolution, and promote your library’s resources and services.

Celebrating and promoting your library’s anniversary is not only a good time for you and your staff to celebrate your milestone and reflect back, but it is an excellent opportunity to promote the services of your depository to new and existing patrons. Additionally, it is an excellent opportunity to educate those around you on the importance of Government documents, be it the everyday patron, the university administrators, or local government officials.

Take this time to not only celebrate, but reflect on your library’s rich history. Is your library’s history documented? If not, take this opportunity to do some research and gather/document that for future generations.
