In September, employers took 1,316 mass layoff actions involving 122,462 workers. Mass layoff events increased by 49 from August, while associated initial claims decreased by 4,992.

Jobless rates down in 41 states, up in 6 in Sept; payroll jobs up in 35 states, down in 15

In September, 41 states and the District of Columbia reported over-the-month unemployment rate decreases, 6 states had increases, and 3 had no change. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 35 states and the district and decreased in 15 states.
