Florida Water-Resources Projects

The Florida Water Science Center conducts hydrologic projects that address a wide variety of water-resources issues, including aquifer characterizations, availability of water, climate change and hydrologic extreme events, ecosystems, hydrologic modeling, surface water, water quality conditions, and wetlands.

Aquifer Characterizations

Aquifer Characterization

Research on the composition of rocks and sediments below land surface, and science to describe the location, conditions, and behavior of water in the ground.

Hydrologic Modeling

Hydrologic Modeling

Science to improve understanding of the movement of groundwater and surface water using modeling simulations. The model boundaries for about 30 additional projects previously completed by FLWSC hydrologists can be found on the Model Boundaries page.

Availability of Water

Availability of Water

Studies of sources of water, the availability of water, and how water is used now and in the past.

Surface Water

Surface Water

Science to observe, analyze, and understand the movement and condition of water in streams, lakes, and estuaries.

Climate Change and Hydrologic Extreme Events

Climate Change and Hydrologic Extreme Events

Studies of how water resources are affected by climate change, and the consequences of hydrologic extreme events including floods and droughts.

Water Quality Conditions

Water Quality Conditions

Science to monitor and evaluate biological, chemical, and environmental factors affecting water quality.

Ecosystems

Ecosystems

Science to understand how hydrologic factors affect ecosystem function.

Wetlands

Wetlands

Interdisciplinary studies of freshwater wetlands.
