METS Profiles

METS Profiles are intended to describe a class of METS documents in sufficient detail to provide both document authors and programmers the guidance they require to create and process METS documents conforming with a particular profile.

Registered Profiles

Institutions creating profiles for their METS objects may register those profiles with the Library of Congress Network Development and MARC Standards Office after they are approved by the METS Editorial Board; such profiles will be made publicly available so that those wishing to produce METS documents in accordance with a particular institutions' requirements may examine them.

Profiles Under Review

The profile immediately below is under review.

The Matterhorn METS Profile is currently under public review: The profile has been developed in cooperation by Docuteam (http://www.docuteam.ch) and the Archives de l'Etat du Valais (http://www.vs.ch/aev) in Switzerland. It describes the core of the digital object model used by the Docuteam software tools to support digital archiving. This may be the first profile that describes the use of EAD within METS in any detail. The profile authors are interested in any comments and questions about the EAD integration or any other topic related to the profile.

The profile is here: http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/profiles/00000041.xml
