The ITA has four different divisions (see summary descriptions below):

  1. Market Access and Compliance
  2. U.S. Commercial Service
  3. Manufacturing and Services
  4. Import Administration

The International Trade Administration:

  • Is a part of the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC)
  • Promotes U.S. exports, particularly by small and medium-sized enterprises, and provides commercial diplomacy support for U.S. business interests around the world (U.S. COMMERCIAL SERVICE)
  • Strengthens U.S. competitiveness abroad by helping shape industry-specific trade policy (MANUFACTURING AND SERVICES OFFICE)
  • Assists U.S. companies and helps create trade opportunities through the removal of market access barriers (MARKET ACCESS AND COMPLIANCE OFFICE)
  • Enforces U.S. trade laws and agreements to prevent unfairly traded imports and to safeguard the competitive strength of U.S. businesses (IMPORT ADMINISTRATION)
