Laredo West Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol Agents Seize 3,000 Pounds of Marijuana

(Friday, August 31, 2012)

Laredo, Texas – On August 30, U.S. Customs and Border Protection U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Laredo West Station seized 3,108 pounds of marijuana at the Laredo West Checkpoint located at Texas Highway 83. While CBP U.S. Border Patrol agents were conducting an immigration inspection of the tractor-trailer, a service canine alerted to possible hidden people or hidden contraband. The tractor-trailer was sent to secondary for further inspection.

At secondary inspection, CBP U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered the narcotics concealed in wooden crates. Agents searched the crates and discovered 112 bundles of a substance that tested positive as marijuana. The drug had an estimated street value of $2,486,960. The driver, marijuana, and tractor-trailer were all turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
