AFC 1944/013: John Becker and Alan Lomax Recordings of Negro Longshoremen from the Ball Steamship Company
One 16-inch disc of 8 songs sung by four longshoremen from the Bell Steamship Company including Jess Ellman, John Henry Epps, Charley Rutledge and Nathaniel Wellman plus an interview with Epps concerning the purpose of the songs, how long he has sung the songs, reasons why the songs are becoming less common, learning the songs, his age, and a mention of his trip from to Bulloch County, Georgia to Tampa, Florida by “railway pass.” Recorded in the studios of WDAE, Tampa, Florida, by John Becker and Alan Lomax,, January 1944. One 7-inch tape of 12 Seminole songs including a lullaby, a love song, animal dance songs, elemental songs, medicine songs, pleasure songs and a “rabbit story” sung and narrated by Harry Jumper in Seminole with some commentary in English by his son, Josiah Jumper. AFS 20,109-20,110: Bill Bonyan/Harry Garfield Duplication Project
Two 10-inch tapes of maritime folklore and reminiscences by Harry Garfield, who served aboard a ship off the southeast coast of Africa. Recorded with Bill Bonyan, place unknown, in 1954. The collection also includes songs by Florida high school girls describing their work in the tobacco growing industry in Connecticut, recorded by Bill Bonyan in Manchester, Connecticut, in the late 1950s.

AFS 22,201-22,207: Allen MacCabe Interview and Song Manuscript Collection
Seven 7-inch tapes of an interview with Allen MacCabe (1906-1983) concerning his early life in Nova Scotia, hoboing during the Depression, serving in the Army Air Corps, and operating a soft drink bottling plant. Documentation includes 230 typescript pages of songs, poems, and recitations collected by McCabe throughout his lifetime. Recorded by Gerald E. Parsons, Jr. and Margaret B. Parsons in Sarasota, Florida, April 21 and 23, 1983.

Twelve 7-inch tapes of interviews and narratives by boat tour guides George Bowers, Donald "Frog" Edwards, Wilbert Gavin, Tommy "Hawk" Jackson, and James A. Moretz. Eighteen 7-inch tapes, two five-inch tapes, and 117 cassettes of ethnic radio broadcasts recorded for the Ethnic Broadcasting in America Project of the American Folklife Center. Recorded mostly off the air by Elena Bradunas, Theodore Grame, Alan Jabbour, and others at various locations in the United States, 1977-78. AFC 1983/016: Rev. Alexander Linn/"Our Florida Indians" Slide Show Collection
Forty-eight color slides and a tape-recorded lecture by Rev. Alexander Linn (1881-1975) regarding Seminole Indians of Florida in the period between 1925 and 1945. Rev. Linn, of Englewood, Florida, regularly visited Seminole family camps during that period. In 1971, he compiled the slide-lecture and recorded the tape regarding his experiences. Also enclosed are 36 additional slides that were not part of the slide-lecture, and a copy of his obituary.

AFC 1986/022: Center for Applied Linguistics Collection
Fifty-nine 10-inch tapes of speech samples, linguistic interviews, oral histories, conversations, and excerpts from public speeches recorded at various locations in North America by various collectors, and compiled by the Center for Applied Linguistics for a project entitled "A Survey and Collection of American English Dialect Recordings." The collection includes fourteen linear inches of documentation, including an introduction and preface, a list of contents, content summaries, and transcripts. Forty-six audiocassettes from the Maritime Heritage Survey, also known as the Florida Maritime Heritage Survey or Maritime Heritage Survey Project, a field project examining the maritime folklife of the Apalachicola region of Florida, including boatbuilding traditions and occupational lore. Recorded in Florida by Barbara Beauchamp, Helen Cooper Floyd, Ormond Loomis, Nancy Nusz, and David Taylor, July 15, 1986-November 11, 1986. Twenty-nine videocassettes of interviews documenting the regional, occupational, and ethnic heritage of long-time Brevard County, Florida residents including a publisher, a space industry worker, a bookkeeper, a doctor's daughter, a postman, a cattleman, a courthouse worker, a developer's daughter, a fisherman's daughter, and a school teacher concerning a broad range of time and subjects from "Old Florida to the Space Age." Directed by Nancy Yasecko of Vanguard Productions, Merritt Island, Florida, 1992. Nine pages of early recollections of Miss Emma Williams, who grew up in Fernandina, Florida. She discusses the Civil War, living in the country, visiting family members, toys she had a child, and school.

AFC 1997/011: Lands' End All-American Quilt Collection
Lands' End in cooperation with Good Housekeeping magazine sponsored quilt contests in 1992, 1994, and 1996. The collection, housed in 154 boxes, consists of visual images, entry blanks, and essays written by entrants, as well as Lands End administrative files and correspondence pertinent to the promotion of the contest. Approximately 13,100 entries for the three contests came from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Three audiocassettes of fiddle tunes by Willie D. Jones of Old Town, Florida. One field recording and two published cassettes called "Heart of Dixie," volumes 1 and 2. Three newspaper clippings and one color xerox of photograph of Jones. Includes a 3-page log.

AFC 2000/001: Local Legacies Collection
Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,270 graphic materials, 335 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress. Two audiocassettes, 1 DAT, and 12 typed transcription pages of an oral history of Charles Foster regarding his work in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), Public Works of Art Project, Florida Federal Art Project, and National Youth Administration, 1934-1942. AFC 2001/012: Laurie Sommers/ "Wiregrass Ways" Radio Series
Laurie Sommers, director of the South Georgia Folklife Project, donated a cassette copy of "Wiregrass Ways," her radio series which ran on Georgia Public Radio in fall 1998 and on WFSU (Tallahassee, Florida) in 1999. The 13-part series included hollering recordings from the Archive of Folk Culture's Francis Harper 1944 recordings. Ann Yao plays the zheng, a long, horizontal plucked zither; she will be joined in this performance by Wang Guowei playing the erhu, a two-stringed fiddle, and by Chen Yihan, playing the pipa, a pear-shaped lute.
