AFC 1948/014: Capt. F.M. Van Natter Collection of American Legion Post Recordings
Nine 12-inch discs of songs and spoken word from the radio broadcast "The American Legion Post" hosted by Capt. F. M. Van Natter. This program features George Field's Spiritual Singers; a Scottish bagpiper playing tunes to the poetry of Robert Burns; and French folk songs from Vincennes, Indiana, including "Au bois," "Au clair de la lune," "Varsouvienne," "Grand'mère se plaint," and "Alouette." AFC 1955/014: Dr. Goldman Recordings at the Indiana Village for Epileptics
One 3-inch tape of "I'm gonna cross that glory road," "Cold wind (don't let it blow)," "That great ship went down (sinking of the Titanic)," and "I Shall not be moved" sung by Mr. Haigh who was taught the songs by a minister. AFC 1963/004: George Korson Collection of Songs of Bituminous Coal Miners
Three 10-inch tapes of instrumentals, a recitation, and songs performed with fiddle and guitar by bituminous coal miners from Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Nova Scotia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Recorded at various locations by George Korson, 1940. The collection includes three pages of lists. AFC 1982/022: The Mountains Stay With Us: Southern Upland Folklife in the Midwest / edited by Deborah K. May
A regional folklife project field research summary compiled by Barry Bergey, Robert Cantwell, Mary Hufford, Kathleen Mundell, and Patricia Radecki, and edited by Deborah K. May, under the auspices of the Great Lakes Arts Alliance, 63 pages. The report includes a map of the site location and descriptions of the "work, leisure and folk arts" of the "southern uplanders: a Midwestern ethnic group" of people who migrated from the "southern mountains." The study was conducted in parts of southern Illinois, southern Indiana, southeastern Michigan, and southern Ohio, January-June 1980.

Two audiocassettes of the ballad "Grandmother's old arm chair" sung twice by Mary Leister, taught to her by her grandfather in Indiana, with introduction and commentary. Recorded by Leister in her home in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, June 1984 and January 1985. AFC 1986/022: Center for Applied Linguistics Collection
Fifty-nine 10-inch tapes of speech samples, linguistic interviews, oral histories, conversations, and excerpts from public speeches recorded at various locations in North America by various collectors, and compiled by the Center for Applied Linguistics for a project entitled "A Survey and Collection of American English Dialect Recordings." The collection includes fourteen linear inches of documentation, including an introduction and preface, a list of contents, content summaries, and transcripts. AFC 1990/015: David Adler Cultural Center / "In the Tradition" Concert Series
Eleven videocassettes of interviews and concert footage from the "In the Tradition" concert series featuring 11 programs produced by the David Adler Cultural Center with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The performances showcase various traditions including blues, Irish, Scandinavian, and Middle Eastern songs, as well as fiddling and ballads from Missouri and Indiana. Recorded in Libertyville, Illinois, 1989. The collection includes 18 pages of concert fliers and descriptions of each performer and performance.

AFC 1990/015: Tape 5: One tape containing concert footage and interviews of Indiana singer Lotus Dickey performing songs and fiddle tunes, accompanied by Paul Tyler and Barbara Silverman. (40 minutes)

AFC 1995/004: Mike Seeger Collection
Two hundred and seventy-five 10-inch tapes of bluegrass, country, and folk music, recorded in California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia, primarily by Mike Seeger, 1953-67. The collection includes three linear inches of computer disks, correspondence, notes, and photos. These tapes supplement his collections already in the archive. Includes some examples made by other collectors, including recordings of autoharpist, John Kilby Snow recorded by Blaine Jaeger. Bluegrass music predominates this collection. A number of the tapes were recorded from radio and TV programs. Tapes also include interviews with country music artists of the 1920s and 1930s including Tom Ashley, Sam and Kirk McGee, Ernest V. Stoneman, Gid Tanner, and Frank Walker. In their reminiscences with Seeger, they speak of many other old-time musicians whom they knew and worked with, life on the road, musical sources, etc. The collection includes logs and indexes. AFC 1997/011: Lands' End All-American Quilt Collection
Lands' End in cooperation with Good Housekeeping magazine sponsored quilt contests in 1992, 1994, and 1996. The collection,housed in 154 boxes, consists of visual images, entry blanks, and essays written by entrants, as well as Lands End administrative files and correspondence pertinent to the promotion of the contest. One audiocassette containing 23 ragtime and other versions of "Golden days," "It had to be you," "Kiss me again," "Liebestraum," "Old Kentucky," "Sarabelle and Johnny," and "You and I" performed on piano by Otto Martin Larson originally of Hammond, Indiana. Originally recorded on 78-rpm home recordings made in Detroit, Michigan, 1941-44. The collection includes 25 pages of biographical information, song lyrics, and program notes. (16 minutes)

AFC 2000/001: Local Legacies Collection
Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,270 graphic materials, 335 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress. AFC 2001/015: September 11, 2001, Documentary Project Collection
The collection documents reactions of ordinary citizens in the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States through sound and video recordings of interviews and personal narratives; as well as photographs, children's drawings, two scrapbooks, letters and e-mail, poems, ephemera, and a few artifacts. Some items were submitted as group projects of schools, libraries, and museums from 30 states in the U.S., and from American military service personnel and their families in Naples, Italy. AFC 2003/046: Robert Turner and the Silver Heart Gospel Singers Concert Collection
Collection consists of sound and video recordings of the concert performance of gospel music performed by Robert Turner and the Silver Heart Gospel Singers of Indianapolis, Indiana. Recorded at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., August 20, 2003. The collection includes black-and-white photographs of the concert, program flyers, and publicity materials. AFC 2004/008: Herbert Halpert Collection
Sound recordings, correspondence, indexes, manuscripts, research notes, photographs and photographic negatives, newspaper clippings, student papers, ephemera and other materials primarily representing the documentation and analysis of the folklore of regions of New York, New Jersey, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Alaska by folklorist Herbert Halpert. The collection occupies approx. 50 linear feet.

AFC 2004/020: Ted Watts Sidewalk Streetcar Collection
Ted Watts of Silver Spring, Maryland, donated this folk toy known as a "sidewalk streetcar." Consisting of a shoe box, colored cellophane windows, a candle, and a string for pulling it along the sidewalk, these toys were pulled along the sidewalks in early September by the children in Terre Haute, Indiana, in the 1930s. The sidewalk streetcar in our collection is a replica that Mr. Watts made in 1996.
