AFS 10,649-10,664: Sixteen discs containing Makah songs sung by various performers including James Guy, Edwin Hayte, Helen Irving, Philip Ladder, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Parker, Charles Swan, Chester Wandahart, and Young Doctor. Recorded in Washington by Frances Densmore, July-August 1923 and 1926.

AFC 1970/042: Benjamin A. Botkin Duplication Project
Four 10-inch tapes of narratives, radio programs, and songs recorded in California, Colorado, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, and Washington, D.C., by Benjamin A. Botkin and the Voice of America, 1949-58. The collection includes five pages of notes. Includes Botkin's Western trip of 1950, Voice of America folklore programs; air checks from ca. 1952-53 including a program honoring Carl Sandburg's 75th birthday; and selections from Botkin's Southern trip of 1949. AFC 1974/001: John Patterson Collection of Edmond Seymour Recordings, Part 2
One 10-inch tape of five songs and a story sung and spoken by Edmund Seymour about the frontier as he learned in the West, especially in the state of Washington. Loaned by Seymour's grandson, John S. One 7-inch tape of three Utah songs, "Cowboy Jack," "On the Road to California," and "Mountain Meadow Massacre" by unknown performers. Duplicated from the collections of Alta S. and Austin E. Fife and Lester Hubbard. Donated by Hal Cannon, 1976. "Mountain Meadows Massacre" sung by George Harter of Kahlotus, Washington, and recorded by Joseph Tarbet, 1952, has been released by the Library of Congress on LBC9, Songs of Death and Tragedy, edited by Richard K. AFC 1979/001: Miervaldis Jansevics 1975 West Coast Latvian Song Festival Collection
Twenty-four 7-inch tapes of the 6th West Coast Latvian Song Festival (Sesto Rictumu Krasta Latviesu Dziesmu Svetku), held in Seattle, Washington, July 3-7, 1975. The collection includes programs, papers in both Latvian and English, and a festival songbook. (includes AFS 26,838-26,851)

AFC 1979/026: Tony Kraber Collection of Edmund Seymour Songs
One 10-inch tape of Edmund Seymour, of New York City, singing and reciting songs and one story of the frontier that he learned in the West, especially Washington State. The four original discs were recorded by Tony Kraber in March 1941.

Seven tapes, copied from cylinders, containing Quileute songs sung by various performers including Abeti, Talicas Eastman, Bessie Gray, Billy Hebalakup, Mrs. Johnson, Julia Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Webb Jones, Old Taylor, Hoxie Simmons, and Mrs. Ward. Recorded in Washington by Leo Joachim Frachtenberg.

AFC 1989/022: Italian-Americans in the West Project Collection
The collection consists of manuscript materials, sound recordings, graphic materials, and moving images related to the American Folklife Center's field research project that focused on the cultural traditions of Italian Americans in the western United States. The materials in the collection were compiled between the years 1988 and 1993; the field research took place from 1989 to 1991. Teams of professional folklife researchers documented many aspects of Italian American folklife at five project sites: Gilroy and San Pedro, California; Pueblo, Colorado; mining and ranching communities in eastern and central Nevada; Carbon County, Utah; and Walla Walla, Washington. AFC 1990/030: Sam Morris Nez Perce Cylinder Collection
Six 10-inch tapes, copied from 69 cylinders, of Nez Perce music, originally recorded 1909-1912. Cylinders are from the Washington State University Libraries. Contents include war dances, social dances, women's dances, smoke songs, hymns, etc.Originally recorded on cylinders, the main collection is located on tapes three through six, the first two tapes were trials. Believed to be recorded in Washington, by Sam Morris of the Nez Perce, 1909-1912. Cylinders were from the Washington State University Libraries.

AFC 1992/014: "The Nature Boys" Samoan-American Urban Music Collection
One audiocassette of Samoan doo-wop and hip-hop from Seattle, Washington. Recorded in the at the KAOS studio in Olympia, Washington, and on a street corner, ca. 1992.

AFC 1993/001: Ethnic Heritage and Language Schools in America Project Collection
Twenty-four 5-inch tapes, 60 7-inch tapes, and 288 audiocassettes from the Ethnic Heritage and Language Schools in America Project, a survey of 23 ethnic schools from 22 ethnic groups. Recorded in various locations throughout the United States by Elena Bradunas and 23 fieldworkers, April-July 1982, sponsored by the American Folklife Center. The collection includes fourteen linear feet of slides, photographs, and reports. Includes documentation of an Ilsamic school in Seattle, Washington, which was founded in 1980. AFC 1995/006: Seattle Folklore Society Collection
Fifty-four 7-inch tapes of 33 concerts and two workshops presented and recorded in Seattle, Washington, by the Seattle Folklore Society, 1965-73. Performers include Jack Elliott, Mike Seeger, Roscoe Holcomb, Elizabeth Cotten, Booker White, Bill Monroe, Doc Watson, Georgia Sea Island Singers, Mills Family, Mike Russo, Son House, Robert Pete Williams, Gary Davis, Big Joe Williams, Fred McDowell, Mance Lipscomb, Sam Hinton, Kilby Snow and the Seattle Folklore Society Benefit. Some tapes have logs. The collection includes a 50-page book entitled Folkmusic on Tapes and Cassettes from the Seattle Folklore Society (Seattle: South Seattle Community College Instructional Resources Center, May 1973). AFC 1997/011: Lands' End All-American Quilt Collection
Lands' End in cooperation with Good Housekeeping magazine sponsored quilt contests in 1992, 1994, and 1996. The collection, housed in 154 boxes, consists of visual images, entry blanks, and essays written by entrants, as well as Lands End administrative files and correspondence pertinent to the promotion of the contest. Approximately 13,100 entries for the three contests came from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. AFC 2000/001: Local Legacies Collection
Four hundred and five linear feet (approximately 90,000 manuscript pages, 475 sound recordings, 13,270 graphic materials, 335 electronic media, and 75 artifacts) of documentation of local festivals, fairs, parades, and other community-based events from each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories and trusts. The Local Legacies Collection was donated through the efforts of individuals, organizations, and institutions asked to participate by members of Congress. AFC 2003/048: Wylie and the Wild West Concert and Interview Collection
Sound and video-recordings of a performance by Wylie and Wild West, cowboy yodeling and swing from Washington state. Wylie Gustafson and his band perform country and western classics, folk-rock tunes, and original songs and dance music composed by Gustafson, who is also a noted Western-style yodeler. The collection includes an interview with Gustafson, digital photographs, and publicity photographs and other materials about the group. Part of the Homegrown 2003 concert series. [catalog record]
