One 7-inch tape, copied from 12 cylinders, of Jamaican folksongs recorded in Jamaica by Helen H. Roberts for Martha Beckwith, 1920-1924. The collection includes a listening log with song titles and descriptions. (LWO 5047 reel 1) (30 minutes)

AFC 1973/028: Laura Boulton Collection Part 10: Music of the West Indies
Fifty-eight 10-inch discs of instrumentals, songs and stories recorded in the Bahamas, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Martinique, by Laura Boulton, 1938. AFC 1983/008: The Kenneth M. Bilby Jamaican Maroon Collection
Twenty-nine 10-inch tapes, 1 box of manuscript materials, and 3 videocassettes that documenting Jamaican maroons, spanning the years 1977-1979 and 1991. Kenneth Bilby conducted fieldwork in Jamaica from 1977 to 1978 as part of his research for a master's thesis in anthropology from Wesleyan University. Includes a manuscript copy of Bilby's master's thesis. Bilby and another researcher, Diana Baird N'Diaye, recorded the Maroons in October 1991 as part of their fieldwork in Jamaica prior to the 1992 Maroon Program of the Smithsonian Festival of American Folklife. Two volumes. Discusses the development and impact of calypso and related music. (2 volumes unbound; 684 pages).

Approximately 700 film and audio elements relating to Pete and Toshi Seeger's filmmaking from 1955-1965 at various locations in: Angola, Australia, Austria, Canada, England, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Somoa, Sweden, Tanzania, Trinidad, Ukraine, and the United States. In the United States, locations include Beacon, New York; Circle Pines, Michigan; Hamilton, Ohio; Huntsville, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Madison, Wisconsin; New York, New York; Newport, Rhode Island; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Washington, DC, among others.

AFC 2006/039: Politics and Poetics: Fieldwork in Afghanistan and Jamaica, Lecture by Margaret Mills and Kenneth Bilby
Two CDs and one videocassette of the Benjamin Botkin Folklife Lecture, August 3, 2006. The speakers discuss issues of the outsider-researcher working with people in cultures that are undergoing pressures of political, economic, and cultural change, using the context of their long term fieldwork. Mills' talk is titled,"The same river: dilemmas and challenges of long-term cultural research in conflict zones and falling states."
