AFS 9122-9123: Navy Songs from the East Squadron at Manila, Philippines
Two 16-inch discs of submariners' songs sung by officers of the East Squadron at Manila, Philippines, sung a capella and with piano accompaniment. AFS 9584-9589: Harold C. Conklin Recordings of Folk Music from the Pacific Islands
Six 16-inch discs of folk music from the Mountain Province of Northern Luzon and from the Hanunoo people in Southern Mindoro, Philippine Islands. Recorded in Southern Mindoro by Harold C. Conklin, 1946-1947. The collection includes 18 pages of correspondence, descriptions, and logs. (2 hours; tape copy on LWO 5111 reels 242A-243A)

AFC 1953/006: Jack Rubak Collection
One 7-inch tape of Italian folk songs recorded by Miss Constance L. Mellen recorded on an unknown date; Indonesian popular songs (Jakarta groups and short interview with Pak Sirat [?]) recorded on an unknown date; and singing of "Battle of Manila Bay" (Spanish-American War song) recorded June 6, 1953. The collection includes a 1-page log.

AFS 10,752A20: One Spanish-American war song, "Battle of Manila Bay," sung by Arleigh Williamson of Staten Island, New York. The lyrics describe how the Americans defeated the Spanish on Manila Bay. Recorded June 6, 1953. (1.5 minutes; LWO 2130; tape copy on LWO 8011 reel 81)

AFS 11,859-11,864: Wayland Hand Collection of Songs and Lore of Urban California
Six 10-inch tapes of songs and stories recorded primarily in the Los Angeles, California, area by Wayland D. Hand, D.K. Wilgus, and various UCLA students, 1956-60. The collection includes 40 pages of correspondence, lyrics, notes, transcripts, and song lists. Includes western folk songs and songs and lore of urban minority groups in California.

AFC 1975/022: National Folk Festival, 1954
Two 10-inch tapes of the 20th National Folk Festival, including dances, instrumentals, and songs from Anglo-, Cuban-, German-, Hungarian-, Jewish-, Mexican-, Native, and Philippine-American traditions. Recorded by the Voice of America in St. Louis, Missouri, April 8, 1954. The National Folk Festival sponsored by St. Louis Globe-Democrat. The collection includes notes about performers and songs. AFS 22,201-22,207: Allen MacCabe Interview and Song Manuscript Collection
Seven 7-inch tapes of an interview with Allen MacCabe (1906-1983) concerning his early life in Nova Scotia, hoboing during the Depression, serving in the Army Air Corps, and operating a soft drink bottling plant. Documentation includes 230 typescript pages of songs, poems, and recitations collected by Mr. McCabe throughout his lifetime. Recorded by Gerald E. Parsons, Jr. and Margaret B. Parsons in Sarasota, Florida, April 21 and 23, 1983. The collection includes five black-and-white prints, four contact sheets, four rolls of black-and-white negatives, and 1/8-linear inch of correspondence, interview notes, and photo logs. AFS 22,558-22,560: Herminia Meñez / Philippine Komposo Collection
Three 7-inch tapes of thirty-one West Bisayan komposos by various composers and performers. Recorded in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines, by Herminia Meñez, Fall 1978. Each komposo is prefaced with a summary and remarks in English. The collection includes 9 pages of background information and song lists. (3 hours; RXA 4063-4065)

AFC 1981/004: Chicago Ethnic Arts Project Collection
Ninety-nine 7-inch tapes and 245 audiocassettes,13 linear inches of contact sheets, eight and three-fourths linear feet of field notes and logs, 3080 slides, 210 photographs, and 2 videos from the Chicago Ethnic Arts Project Collection, a field survey of ethnic artistic expression including dance, foodways, neighborhood gatherings, religious celebrations, and instrumental and vocal music. Recorded in the Chicago, Illinois, area by various collectors under the direction of Elena Bradunas, February-November 1977; under the joint sponsorship of the American Folklife Center and the Illinois Arts Council. AFC 1981/018: Ethnic Broadcasting in America Collection
Eighteen 7-inch tapes, two 5-inch tapes, and 117 audiocassettes of ethnic radio broadcasts recorded for the Ethnic Broadcasting in America Project of the American Folklife Center. Recorded mostly off the air by Elena Bradunas, Theodore Grame, Alan Jabbour, and others at various locations in the United States, 1977-78. Documentation includes Theodore Grame's Ethnic Broadcasting in the United States (Washington, D.C.: American Folklife Center, 1980) and 6 linear inches of manuscript materials.

AFS 23,021A: One tape containing Filipino religious recordings broadcasted on KBRG. Recorded in San Francisco, California, April 16, 1978. (RYA 2889)

AFS 23,123A: One audiocassette containing "Radio Filipino," a radio program including commentary, commercials, and Filipino songs spoken and sung in English and Tagalog, broadcast on WQVQ. Recorded in Highland Park, Illinois, June 11, 1978. (RYA 2980)

AFC 1986/034: Harold C. Conklin Philippine Recordings
Ninety-two 5-inch tapes of Hanunóo and Buhíd oral literature, vocal and instrumental music, and other cultural sounds. Recorded in the Southern Mindoro Islands, Philippines by Harold Conklin, 1952-1958. The collection includes three-eighths linear inch of concordances, correspondence, and photocopies of original tape boxes. (includes AFS 26,750-26,767) (30 hours; RWB 7144-7161)

AFC 1991/009: Laura Boulton Collection Addition
Two hundred thirty-nine tapes of music, songs, and lectures recorded in Angola, Canada, China, Ethiopia, Fiji, Ghana, Guinea, Haiti, India, Japan, Malaya, Micronesia, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Tahiti, Togo, Turkey, the United States, and Zaire by Laura Boulton, 1963-1984. The collection 5/8 linear inch of correspondence and tape logs. The collection comprises a supplement to the Laura Boulton cylinder, discs, and tape collection donated by Columbia University, 1973.

AFC 1991/009:Ar48: One tape containing "Simponyang Kawayan (Bamboo Symphony)," including music performed on flutes, xylophones, guitar, cymbals, drum, and others. Recorded April 21, 1968.

AFC 1996/028: Ron Walcott / Philippine and Sri Lankan Music Collection
One cassette entitled "The Mountains Ring Out Their Joy," containing 25 Christian songs from the Cordilleras of Northern Philippines sung mostly a capella. Recorded in the Philippines by Ron Wolcott and produced by the Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music, 1987. The collection includes one 42-page song book with the same title as the cassette containing music and lyric transcriptions and one 75-page booklet of the first number of the journal, Paminsanang Sulatin sa Pananaliksik sa Musika (Occassional Papers in Music Research). AFC 1999/004: Sam Eskin Collection
Collection consists of manuscripts, field recordings, photographs, and ephemera documenting folk music and folk music revivals in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from 1938 to 1966; plus manuscripts and field recordings of mostly unidentified artists performing folk music in Jamaica, Cuba, England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Hong Kong, Philippines, India, and Thailand from 1953 to 1969 collected by Sam Eskin. Manuscript materials include correspondence, transcriptions of songs and lyrics, folk festival programs and flyers, a Japanese song book, Eskin's lecture notes, and his collection of bawdy songs and limericks. AFC 2001/007: Harold C. Conklin Philippine Collection
Audio duplications of unpublished, original ethnographic field recordings document the music and rituals of the agrarian Ifugao of northern Luzon, Philippines. Made from 1955 to 1995, these audio recordings of the Ifugao document a wide range of social customs/traditions that are revealed through conversations, vocabulary exercises, children's games and songs, chants, recitations, rituals, and the collector's voice letters to his family.
