Dr. Aaron Lopata, MD
Aaron Lopata, MD, is currently on detail to ONAP from his role as a budget and policy analyst in the Health Division at the Office of Management Budget.
Dr. Lopata is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and completed his residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in 2000. In 2003, Dr. Lopata received a Masters in Public Policy from UCLA, after which time he moved to Washington D.C. to work on health policy at the Federal level. Before starting at OMB, Dr. Lopata worked as a health policy fellow for Congressman Henry Waxman in the House Office of Government Reform and later, for Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky.
At OMB, Dr. Lopata has worked on programs within the Health Resources and Services Administration, including Maternal and Child Health, Rural Health, and the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. Over the past eight years Dr. Lopata has worked closely with other Federal agencies, OMB analysts, and AIDS advocates to improve the coordination of HIV/AIDS activities across the Federal government and increase the combined effectiveness of those activities in local jurisdictions.
Dr. Lopata has also collaborated with the White House Office of National AIDS Policy on such issues as the 2009 reauthorization of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program and the development of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy released in July 2010. During his time at ONAP, Dr. Lopata has worked closely with HRSA and other Federal agencies to ensure that grantees (state and local health departments, medical clinics, community-based organizations) are prepared for 2014 when thousands of uninsured individuals living with HIV will be eligible to receive health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
