Why is October such an outstanding month? For a great many of us in the Northern Hemisphere, I suppose it has something to do with the sights and smells of autumn, the sense of invigoration that often follows any change in season…

Another reason to appreciate October is the fact that it is American Archives Month. As Mr. David S. Ferriero, Archivist of the United States, stated in a recent blog post:

“October is American Archives Month, a time when we celebrate the work that archivists all over the country do to ensure that the records of their institutions are created, collected, and protected in a manner that allows their clientele to find what they need.”

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library & Museum thinks that October is awesome for a few other reasons too. Not only is it Georgia Archives Month, it is also the month in which Jimmy Carter, our 39th President of the United States, was born!

Now it can also be said that October is the month in which we launch this social media venture, The Carter Chronicle, the blog of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library & Museum! We invite you to learn more about The Carter Chronicle and its bloggers. We look forward to communicating with you all about our goings-on and hope to hear from you in return. Please share your comments, ideas, and concerns with us–our comment and posting policy is available for reference.

You’ve heard from us as to why we think October is such a great month. What makes October outstanding to you?
