Jim Shelton, assistant deputy secretary for innovation and improvement, will be a featured speaker at the TEDxMidAtlanti: Be Fearless conference on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Sidney Harman Hall in Washington, D.C. Shelton will focus his talk on investing in education innovation and technology.

At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where “x” equals an independently organized TED engagement. Other speakers this year include Colin Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State; Melody Barnes, former assistant to President Obama and director of the White House Domestic Policy Council; and Mark Rubenstein, business icon and philanthropist.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a nonprofit organization devoted to “ideas worth spreading.” It started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago and has grown to support world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. TED seeks the world’s leading thinkers and doers to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes.

The event is being sponsored by The Case Foundation. Click here for the live Web cast.
