Leadership, Governance

LANL's mission is to develop and apply science and technology to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce global threats; and solve other emerging national security and energy challenges.

Science, technology, and engineering work at Los Alamos benefits from strong leaders and rigorous governance

The people of Los Alamos National Laboratory are held by customers, as well as their own senior managers, to very high standards of accountability, achievement, and ethical behavior.

And in times of scarce resources, those who run the Laboratory are, well, resourceful, helping maximize funding opportunities and reaching back for help from the following four organizations that formed Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS) to manage and operate Los Alamos for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA): the University of California; Bechtel National, Inc.; The Babcock & Wilcox Company; and URS Corporation.

These four world-class organizations have extensive experience in nuclear defense programs, large-scale facilities management, applying science and technology to homeland security challenges, and safety and security. They work closely with Laboratory leaders to support delivery of NNSA's mission at LANL.
