  2. The folks in my hometown were out in large numbers at the Township Hall. I was in Plainville with my Dad this morning while he was voting. We are fortunate to live in the USA and I hope all fulfill their responsibilities as citizens today.

  3. Robba and I drove to Colorado this weekend to attend the wedding of Emily Jeter, daughter of Joe and Cheryl Jeter of Hays. I stayed today to visit the United States Air Force Academy. At the Academy, I was briefed by the Superintendent Lt. General Mike Gould, and had lunch with eight cadets from Kansas and Brigadier General Greg Lengyel, the Commandant of Cadets. I was also asked to speak to a senior seminar studying the U.S. Congress taught by Lt. Col. Shaio Zerba and Lt. Col. Denver Collins.

    Congratulations to the Jeter family and thank you to all those at the U.S. Air Force Academy for facilitating my visit.

  5. Congratulations to NIC, Inc. of Olathe on their recent recognition as one of Forbes Magazines' Top 100 American Small Businesses. Ranked at #31 this year, NIC employs over 650 people and was also named one of the nation's Top 25 fastest-growing tech companies. I'm glad to hear of NIC's continued success and am happy the firm calls Kansas home.

This one at Gibson Health Mart focused on health care and the election with Pharmacist Sarah Ashmore and Sammy Augustine, a Ft. Hays student and Pharmacy Assistant. I chair the Senate Pharmacy Caucus and these conversations back home help me with my work in Washington.

  8. I recently learned about an inspiring project that I want to share with Kansans. The Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City and Just Like You Films, a KC-based film production company, have teamed up to create a film called Just Like Yo...
    u - Down Syndrome. This 13-minute film stars three kids with Down syndrome and their friends sharing personal stories to help viewers better understand the condition and why people with Down syndrome wish to be treated just like you. This film reminds us that understanding of our unique differences makes us more compassionate and connected human beings - and shows us all that we are more alike than we are different. If you are a member of the military who has not received your absentee ballot, you may fill out the form at the link below and fax or email it to the election office in the county where you’re registered to vote. They will expedite process your ballot request by the method of your choice (via fax or email), send you a ballot via fax or email and once you fill out your ballot you can fax or email it back to the county election office.

  11. Every 6 seconds someone in the world dies from starvation. Yesterday's S.W.I.P.E. Out Hunger event helped highlight the work that needs to be done to make certain no one goes to bed hungry in America and around the globe. I am proud to be a Co-chair of the Senate Hunger Caucus and have the opportunity to work to reduce hunger in poor, crisis-prone communities Organizations like Numana, Inc. work tirelessly to eliminate malnutrition worldwide and I appreciate their hard work. All of the food we packaged will be sent through the Salvation Army World Service Office to the Horn of Africa to assist in the famine.

Last week, I explained to Federal Trade Commission Chairman Jon Leibowitz the importance of the technology sector to the American economy and urged the FTC to fully consider the impact of any potential actions against technology companies. This sector has been a bright spot for the our economy during this difficult recession and is responsible for a considerable amount of job creation in recent years.

It was great to see so many friends in Overland Park at Congregation B'nai Jehudah this afternoon, where I visited with Kansans City Israel Action Forum about recent activity in Congress to increase pressure on Iran and expand American security cooperation with Israel. The strength of the strategic alliance between the United States and Israel is critical to our security and the stability of the Middle East.

  28. Do you want to experience the excitement of the legislative process while making a difference in the lives of Kansans? The Intern Program is open to qualified undergraduate and graduate students who have a strong interest in public service and government.
    Interns in my Washington, D.C., office are immersed in the legislative activity of Capitol Hill, gaining meaningful professional experience. Nearly half of my staff started their careers as interns on Capitol Hill.

Today at Fort Riley, Company F of the 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division out hosted the launch of the Gray Eagle Unmanned Aircraft System on Marshall Army Airfield. This event is the beginning of validation for training operations to certify Company F for potential deployment.

    Fort Riley offers the Army unique opportunities to train and test this newly developed technology. In the future, these advanced systems will be called upon to arm, equip and protect our soldiers.
