  1. Thanks to SEPTA for their decision to send buses to help New Jersey Transit in meeting their transportation challenges after Hurricane Sandy. Americans come together in times of disaster.
  2. Today at PPL’s Emergency Command Center in Allentown, I met with PPL CEO Bill Spence to review efforts to restore power to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. I will continue to work closely with PPL and state and federal authorities to ensure timely disaster relief. My thanks to utility workers, emergency responders and volunteers for their tireless work during these difficult days.

  3. I encourage all Pennsylvanians in the path of Hurricane Sandy to stay safe and follow any warnings and advice provided by local authorities. For tips on how to prepare for the storm, please visit http://www.readypa.org/.

I have already reached out to FEMA, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, and local officials across Pennsylvania to offer my assistance. I will continue to monitor the storm as it unfolds and stand ready to help.
  4. I'll be on WILK with Sue Henry at 9:30 a.m. Tune in as we discuss Libya, the sequestration and other news of the day.
  5. I toured the quarry at Pennsy Supply in Lebanon County today. They play a key role in commercial construction, infrastructure development and residential building throughout south central Pennsylvania.

  6. I toured Thermacore today, a national defense company in Lancaster. They are true innovators - and very concerned with Washington's excessive regulations.

  7. I visited the Army Heritage Education Center in Carlisle today to announce my bill, the Joint Military Heritage Preservation Act of 2012. It initiates a Defense Department study on the development of a joint Army-Navy archival facility here in Carlisle. Currently, documents stored at the Navy History and Heritage Command in D.C. are endangered due to poor facilities.

  8. In Montgomery County today, District Attorney Risa Ferman and I talked about a new IRS pilot program that allows Pennsylvania law officers to more aggressively pursue perpetrators of tax fraud. This will enable greater cooperation between victims, local law enforcement and the IRS in bringing identity thieves to justice.

  10. Today I introduced a new report showing the impact of President Obama's tax policies on Pennsylvania manufacturers. It's not pretty.
  11. A man of sharp intelligence and dogged determination, Sen. Arlen Specter dedicated his life to public service and the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. His impact on our state and public policy will not be forgotten. My wife Kris and I send our thoughts and prayers to Joan and the entire Specter family.
