Pryor Announces Weather Radar Upgrade in Little Rock

New Technology Will Improve Local Weather Forecasts and Warnings

LITTLE ROCK- U.S. Senator Mark Pryor today announced that the National Weather Service forecast office in Little Rock now has an upgraded Doppler radar serving the region with new life-saving technology. The Dual-polarization, or “dual-pol” radar provides meteorologists with enhanced information about the atmosphere so that they can more accurately track, assess and warn the public of approaching high-impact weather.
LITTLE ROCK—U.S. Senator Mark Pryor and the National Weather Service will host a news conference tomorrow, October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. CT, to announce the completion of the Doppler radar in Little Rock. Part of the nationwide upgrade to the NWS Doppler radar network, this new dual polarization technology will help forecasters more accurately track, assess, and warn the public of high-impact weather. The Little Rock forecast office serves more than 1.6 million people in 45 Arkansas counties.
