Misguided Social Security ‘Reform’ - The New York times

At the end of last year, just shy of the 11th hour in the fiscal cliff negotiations, President Obama made an offer that included a Republican-backed idea to cut spending by lowering the cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security benefits. The move shocked Congressional Democrats and dismayed Mr. Obama’s liberal base.

The offer, however, was rejected...Expand this post »

I love how the administration "mistakenly" bought into the plan.

+Michael Panici *laughs!!!!!* Yes. I'm the troll here coming on here and spewing treason on a Progressive blog. Yeah, that's me! I'm the crazy uneducated one, with all the grammar problems, all the spelling issues, the fact-deficient mindset.

Oh, no, wait. I was wrong again, I was looking at you in the mirror you were trying to pretend you were showing me, and all I saw was you. Your arguments are perfectly illustrated by you holding up a mirror frame with no actual glass in it, and demanding everyone see their reflection that way.

Today's news from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.):

Global Warming: Sen. Bernie Sanders says the warmest year on record in the United States and in Vermont has persuaded him it's time to get serious about climate change. The independent lawmaker says he plans to introduce legislation that would include a tax on greenhouse gas emissions from the biggest polluters, more money for energy efficiency and clean...Expand this post »

When they start grasping at the bible (amongst other specious alleged sources), you know they are desperate to alleviate the anxiety of attending to reality.

Even aside from climate issues...fossil fuel particulate pollutions...billions of metric tons of sulphur, mercury and carcinogens released freely into the atmosphere annually, kill around 1000 people each day via respiratory ailments and acute crises caused....totally independent of the CO2 and other warming gas releases.

Gun violence...when someone breaks the law, does an evil with intent to do so....kills ~10,000 people per year, or around 30 people per day.

Burning coal...when it is working as intended, when the laws we have now are obeyed in full....kills around 365,000 people per year, 1000 per day.

Do the math...compare how much time Obama (and others) have spent commenting on guns versus how much actual attention is focussed on a problem that, even if we set aside the partisan shit-storm over climate change, kills some 30+ times as many people every day.

The one consistent theme is a desire to hide from reality. As to guns, they pretend that you can legislate your way out of criminal insanity, as if the mentally ill and criminally violent can be prevented by taking away legal weapons from law abiding citizens...rather than directing attention to the problem with mental healthcare and a general inculcation to violence as a way to solve problems in our culture. As to the harm from fossil fuels, we avoid and redirect attentions, because the weaning from an addiction is a tremendous struggle...consideration of the monumental task daunting.

As with most of our problems, you need look no further than human nature to determine why we delay movement toward true solutions...bickering over aspects of difference senselessly in the face of clear evidence requiring change anyway (regardless of the disputed subcategories) that can be universally recognized.

Conning the public via skeptic nonsense and conspiracy theories, is the most well-played maneuver by the fossil fuel industry...tapping into a human penchant toward alleviating fears and anxiety by willful ostrich impersonation...operating much like religious faith, persisting in the face of incontrovertible evidence.

Since most laws begin in the HOUSE,.. with this Congress, (most useless in History) we can't even pay the Bill THEY ALREADY racked up, never mind change Banking laws when Banks ruin/rob the country and we pay for that too. Look how many Judicial appointments GOP has blocked to get judges in benches to stop these banks!

Chuck...Brunetti is a sanctimonious twit and Obama apologist who trolls me to this day with false accusations every time he sees my name tagged by someone else... i did mention I have a fanclub of my own and he is the commander in cheekyness...he blocked me, yet never fails to make a snarky comment every time he sees my name. He is small and petty and resents that he was made to look foolish in a thread where he did not have the intellectual capacity to rationally respond to my points regarding Obama selling the progressives out on fossil fuels, Goldman Sachs prosecutions, Monsanto to the FDA, etc., so decided to cover his inadequacies by blocking my posts and decclaring himself the winner of the internet.

He makes an occasional worthy contribution on a point from a democrat perspective...I am more capable of intellectual honesty than he is, even in regarding someone I dislike, but has rose colored blinders and has hissy fits if you criticize Obama and remind that this is the independent socialist forum of Mr. Sanders, not a democrat cheerleader club. More often, he will speak in circular ways that make his actual point a little difficult to decipher, casting opposing arguments simultaneously, with equal weight, or just double talking himself. Anyway...sorry you got one of my troubled characters on your ass too.

The Week in Review:

Last year was the hottest year ever recorded in the United States, the government announced on Tuesday. Sen. Bernie Sanders said will introduce legislation to deal with the global warming crisis in a way that is “aggressive but achievable.” President Obama on Thursday nominated his chief of staff, Jacob L. Lew, to be his new treasury secretary. Citing Lew’s ties to Wall Street, ...Expand this post »

+Dan Swick You never had any point other than, paraphrasing here, "liberals are meanies." Conservatives have been promoting lies about global warming and then attacking anybody who calls them on it. If you don't like losing get off the team denying reality.

Yeah, I agree.  I just think that Krugman is considered much leftier than he actually is.  Of course, he's a lot better than Jack Lew.
