Star Tribune: "Tighter rules on cellphone tracking urged"

Sen. Franken, Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, and the Law, recently announced the release of a new report he requested from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) that shows wireless companies are not providing consumers enough information about how they use and share their private location data, and says that federal action would likely help address this problem.

The new report "very clearly makes the case for regulation," Franken said in an interview Wednesday. "It says when people get [cellphone applications], their location gets taken and shared with third parties and people don't know that."
