Wednesday, March 28, 2012

To honor "Millitary Child and National Poetry Monty" Sen. Franken is hosting a poetry competition for children of military families.

According to a press release, Franken is hosting a poetry contest with the theme “My experiences as a Military Child.” He invites all children of military families across Minnesota to enter.

There are three age categories: 1) Kindergarten to 6th grade; 2) 7th to 9th grade; 3)10th to 12th grade

Poems can be no longer than 300 words. They must be submitted by April 16 and include the name of entrant, parent/guardian name, address, phone number, name of entrant’s school, and clearly indicate what age category the entrant is in.

The entries will be judged on relevance to theme, creativity, judge’s impression, fluency, structure and technical excellence.

The winners of the competition will have their poems framed and displayed in Franken’s office in Saint Paul and in Washington, DC and each winner will receive an autographed book by famed Minnesota author and host of “Prairie Home Companian,” Garrison Keillor.
