Landrieu Lauds LA. 'Blue Ribbon' Small Business Awardees

WASHINGTON – United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, today lauded two Louisiana small businesses that earned the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s 2012 Blue Ribbon Small Business Award. The Louisiana companies honored are Triton Industries of Lottie and Covalent Logic of Baton Rouge.

These companies were recognized for their dedication to the principles of free enterprise and their contributions to restoring jobs and prosperity.

“These companies are tremendous examples of the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that drives innovation and fuels economic growth in Louisiana and all across America,” Sen. Landrieu said. “I’m glad that Triton Industries and Covalent Logic and the entrepreneurs who took a big risk by starting a small business are being recognized for the great work they are doing. They are deserving of this honor and are making the state of Louisiana proud.”

Triton Industries, a family-owned, Louisiana-based small business, manufactures industrial vacuums for the petrochemical, refinery, shipyard, marine barge and oil and gas industries. These systems were deployed as part of the disaster recovery efforts during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and were vital to efforts to lessen the impact of the spill in Louisiana and across the Gulf Coast.

Last year, Sen. Landrieu wrote a letter supporting the nomination of Triton Industries for an Excellence in Innovation Award for manufacturers given by the Department of Commerce’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

Covalent Logic is an integrated communications firm providing design, development and strategy for business, non-profits and government, established by Stafford Kendall and Bryan Murphy in 2005.

The Baton Rouge Business Report and Junior Achievement recently named Kendall the Baton Rouge Young Business Person of the Year. The award recognizes an individual's success in business.

This year’s 75 Blue Ribbon winners were selected from a record number of nationwide applicants and will be honored at America’s Small Business Summit 2012, which will be held from May 21–23 in Washington, D.C. On March 15, seven of the Blue Ribbon recipients will be announced as award finalists, and one will be named the DREAM BIG Small Business of the Year during the summit. The winner will be presented with a $10,000 cash prize courtesy of the U.S. Chamber.

Blue Ribbon businesses are also eligible for the Community Excellence Award, which will be decided in March through online public voting.
