Senator Landrieu Heralds Google Small Business Event Coming To Acadiana

Via Senator Landrieu’s inquiry, Google will help small businesses by bringing its “Get Your Business Online” Event to Acadiana

WASHINGTON – Senator Mary Landrieu, Chair of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, applauds Google for agreeing to bring its “Get Your Business Online” event to Lafayette, Louisiana.  Senator Landrieu wrote to Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, on May 23, 2012 to request that one of their successful “Get Your Business Online” events come to the Acadiana region. In response, Google will be holding “Louisiana Get Your Business Online” on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 8:30am to 3:00pm at the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Center, 537 Cajundome Boulevard Lafayette, LA 70506. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to register at www.LouisianaGetOnline.com or call 1-800-986-6958.

Google has demonstrated its commitment to small businesses by holding these free workshops that explain how to create a business website. Participants also receive a unique domain name without a charge for one year. Creating a small business website is critical when 97% of people go online to find a local product or service. In particular, Louisiana is in need of Google’s workshop as 64% of small businesses in the state do not have their own website. An official online presence offers consumers the choice of spending their money locally, small businesses the chance to find new customers, and locally owned and operated companies the opportunity to grow. We need to do all we can to assist the many small business owners and the self-employed to create a website that will maximize and achieve their full commercial capabilities.

“Google’s ‘Get Your Business Online’ event will serve the hardworking small businesses of Acadiana by making it easier for local companies to compete in today’s fast paced online and global market," said Senator Landrieu. “I look forward to attending this event that will help strengthen the backbone of the American economy.”

Dear Senator Landrieu,

Thank you for your letter inviting Google to host a ‘Get Your Business Online” event in Lafayette, Louisiana. I’m pleased to be able to tell you that Google will host “Louisiana Get Your Business Online” in Lafayette at the Louisiana Immersive Technologies Center (537 Cajundome Blvd.) on Friday, August 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

We know that in your chairmanship of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee you are a tireless advocate for Louisiana’s small businesses and tech community and we would be thrilled if you would be able to participate in the event. As you know, 64% of Louisiana’s small businesses do not have a website and are missing out on the economic opportunity of the Internet. With your help, we can add Louisiana businesses to the 275,000 small businesses that we’ve already helped to start the process of building a presence online.

Google is excited to play an active role in the economic success of Louisiana’s small businesses, and we’re very pleased to count you as a partner in our work to get these small businesses online.

Sincerely,

Susan Molinari
