Udall, juwi Wind CEO Call on Congress to Extend Wind Production Tax Credit

The PTC Supports 6,000 Manufacturing Jobs in Colorado, 75,000 Nationwide

Posted: Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Mark Udall joined with Michael Rucker, CEO of Boulder-based juwi Wind, in calling on Congress to extend the wind Production Tax Credit and give wind energy manufacturers the certainty they need to create jobs and invest in America.

“The private sector gets it: Extending the wind Production Tax Credit is one of the best ways we can drive investment in American manufacturing and Made-in-America energy,” Udall said. “Coloradans have already seen the cost of congressional inaction. We are building momentum — among business leaders and elected leaders — across the country to extend the PTC. Let’s get this bipartisan and widely-supported idea across the finish line and onto the president’s desk.”

"Extending the Production Tax Credit this year is vital for Colorado's clean energy economy. We are national leaders in wind energy and we should not let this important tax credit expire. A majority of Americans support wind energy and Congress should act on that support," said juwi Wind CEO Michael Rucker.

Udall has been a longtime advocate for extending the wind Production Tax Credit. He has given 19 speeches on the Senate floor, detailing the positive effects of the wind energy industry in states across the country. Since starting his campaign in June, a bipartisan and bicameral group of lawmakers have joined him, including Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.).

Earlier this year, Udall called for and then praised a bipartisan bill, which included the wind Production Tax Credit, and then passed the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. Udall also recently joined with Bennet and Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) to reauthorize the wind Production Tax Credit as an amendment to the Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act.

Last week, Udall spoke with former Gov. Jennifer Granholm about the importance of the PTC and why congress needs to extend the PTC as soon lawmakers return to Washington.

Udall also has written guest columns on the need to extend the wind Production Tax Credit for the Denver Post, the Steamboat Pilot, the Pueblo Chieftain and the Northern Colorado Business Report.
