Workforce Development, Education & Training

Workforce Development, Education & Training (WDET) at GPO is a critical human capital system concerned with identifying future needs, developing a productive workforce, identifying and examining the competencies and skill levels of employees at all levels, and determining both proficiency and skill gap . WDET is responsible for helping to develop a workplace climate that drives the attainment of current and future agency goals through the use of transformational strategies in career development, education, and training. In short, WDET is about learning, developing, and changing our skill sets to meet the needs of our stakeholders and customers.

WDET's strategic plan promotes and establishes effective leadership, training, and career programs that strengthen the skills and abilities of managers and employees. This strategic plan seeks to create a workplace climate that supports, motivates, and gives every employee the opportunity to perform up to their full potential. Major components of this plan include:

  • Provide cost effective, high-quality, and timely training solutions to enhance the ability of all GPO employees to effectively perform their duties.
  • Provide competency based leadership training and developmental opportunities and staff to enhance individual performance; support continuous learning at all levels, and support the Agency's succession planning initiatives.
  • Optimize the use of available technology to enhance and deliver training solutions, promote increased understanding of GPO's mission, plans, and accomplishments, and enable efficient sharing of knowledge, experience, and ideas.

WDET is not solely about training or educating employees, but involves transforming employees to become flexible to adapt to changes in the organization. WDET impacts on the success of our Agency's ability to recruit, promote, hire, and retain quality employees in the workplace.
