Rochester Post Bulletin: "Franken seeks answers in deaths of WSU Grad, friend"

Winona State University grad, Kari Bowerman, was traveling through Southeast Asia with her friend Cathy Huynh when they both became sick in Vietnam. Both of the women were admitted to the hospital and unfortunately passed away from yet to be determined causes. Sen. Franken wrote a letter to Secretary of State Clinton to ask for an investigation into the two women's deaths.

Klobuchar, Franken, Peterson Announce USDA Disaster Declaration for Minnesota Counties Affected by Ongoing Drought

Today, U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a disaster declaration for counties in Minnesota affected by the ongoing drought. This declaration means that farmers in these counties are now eligible for emergency loan assistance from the Farm Service Agency (FSA) to help cover crop or livestock losses.

Sen. Franken Seeking Young Minnesotans Interested in Appointment to a U.S. Military Service Academy

U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) is now accepting applications from young Minnesotans interested in attending one of the nation's five military service academies, including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. In order to attend a service academy, candidates must be nominated by a member of Congress. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 1.
