Composition System Replacement

GPO is actively working on a project to replace its legacy composition system. The project, called Composition System Replacement (CSR), will comprise the necessary technology and business practices to enable GPO to replace or integrate all existing discrete applications, utilities, and processes currently used by GPO and its users to compose and create files optimized for printing and access of select Congressional and Federal agency publications.

Vendor Surveys

GPO has issued a Request for Information. All responses to the RFI must be submitted by 3:00 pm EST on September 27, 2010. All questions relating to this RFP should be directed to Arza Gardner at agardner@gpo.gov and CSR@gpo.gov. More information about the RFI and the actual vendor surveys can be found at: http://www.gpo.gov/vendors/composition/vendorsurvey.htm.

Key Documents

The CSR ConOps: Describes the desired characteristics of Composition System Replacement (CSR) from the user's viewpoint.

Requirements Document: Defines the requirements for CSR and is intended to communicate those requirements to the technical community who will build the system.

The Supplement to the Preliminary Requirements Document illustrates specific requirements that the CSR team believes are better communicated by the use of graphic examples.

Additional Information:

http://xml.house.gov/ provides information about the ongoing work of the U.S. House of Representatives in relation to the eXtensible Markup Language. It is important to note that the DTDs and examples presented have not been finalized and may be extended over time.

The following reference manuals are provided for a more complete technical overview of the existing Microcomp system:

The following XML and locator files will be used by GPO for benchmarking processing speed. The requirement for processing speed is referenced in the CSR Preliminary RD V1.0 under Metrics on page 35, requirement #3.2.8.1
