presented at the Library of Congress, June 23rd 2008. This was tons of fun to present. I decided to forgo the PowerPoint and instead worked with students to prepare over 40 minutes of video for the 55 minute presentation. This is the result.

  • "Can't kill (illegal things on the internet), only criminalize. Can't stop kids from using. We can't only drive it underground. Can't make them passive (again). Only "pirates". Is that good? We live in an age of prohibitions. We live life constantly against the law. And this is what we're doing to our kids. They live life knowing they're living against the law. This realization is extraordinarily cruel. Corrosive. Corrupting In a democracy, we ought to do better."

  • I loved the part about noticing beauty in youtubers because you can stare at them as long as you want without it being socially awkward. It is so true! Great lecture, I wish I could be one of those students taking part in this study!
