Description
The Aesop for Children interactive book is designed to be enjoyed by readers of any age. The book contains over 140 classic fables, accompanied by beautiful illustrations and interactive animations.
“Aesop's Fables”—also called “the Aesopica”—are a collection of stories designed to teach moral lessons credited to Aesop, a Greek slave and story-teller thought to have lived between 620 and 560 BCE.
Aesop's fables are some of the most well known in the world and have been translated in multiple languages and become popular in dozens of cultures through the course of five centuries. They have been told and retold in a variety of media, from oral tradition to written storybooks to stage, film and animated cartoon versions—even in architecture.
The fables remain a popular choice for moral education of children today. Younger scholars will be able to trace the origin of aphorisms such as “sour grapes” and “a bird in the hand.”
This interactive ebook is presented by the Library of Congress, adapted from the book “The Aesop for Children: with Pictures by Milo Winter,” published by Rand, McNally & Co in 1919. This work is considered to be in the public domain in the United States.

Amazing Find!
I'm so glad to have stumbled upon this gigantic collection.
Each story has a hand drawn illustration and sometimes animations to go along with a wonderful little story. Of which there is many, as well as a life lesson to sum it all up.
Truly, even as adults we can learn to enjoy and appreciate these old tales. The best part??? They are free! Highly recommend this to everyone!
Just enough sugar to help engage a child in reading, but without too many distractions
A wonderful way to read to a kid without too many distracting bells and whistles, but a little extra something that a regular book can't offer.
Great collection of classical stories!
I remember hearing a lot of these stories as a little kid. It's a great app if you like fable, and the illustrations are nice too. I have only a couple of minor complaints. Most significantly, The Wolf and the Shepherd is included twice, and some of the stories are missing pictures. On two of them, there are embedded videos, which unfortunately take up the full screen if you play them. And the animations on the pictures that you have to touch to start don't always play their sounds. Still, this is a great collection, a great app, and a great choice for the Library of Congress to display as work in the public domain. I'd like to see them do this with more classic works. Maybe some American literature?
