Working with field notes, photo logs, contact sheets, and tape-recording machines may be an unusual form of research for many scholars of women's history and culture. But for those interested in the everyday lives of ordinary women—urban and rural, both newly arrived and long-time residents of the United States—the field project collections of the American Folklife Center should prove to be well worth the time and challenges.
