Slide 1 of 7. This is the top of the METS
(Metadata
Encoding and Transmission Standard) used to wrap and present a wire recording of
Pennsylvania German folk music recorded in the field in the 1950s. This recording--one item
within a larger archival collection--is also shown in the next two slides. This portion of the
METS
document features an item-level bibliographic description (when work on the collection has been
completed, there will also be a collection-level bibliographic record in the Library’s main
catalog), followed by some administrative metadata pertaining to the three digital files that
reproduce the audio: a 48,000 Hz/24 bit WAVE file (the master), a 44,100 Hz/16 bit WAVE file,
and a 256 kbps MP3 file.
