USING THE COLLECTIONS

The Library's rich and varied array of fiction and nonfiction film and television holdings offer scholars unparalleled treasures. The size, scope, and nature of the collections, however, lead to difficulties in providing comprehensive bibliographic control. The majority of the moving-image materials have not been fully cataloged and are accessible primarily by title. Identifying films and videos by subject usually requires a number of strategies, including keyword searching of the division's various manual and online catalogs, searching the vertical files, and compiling title lists from secondary sources such as reference works, monographs, and periodicals. The reference staff will assist you in suggesting search strategies. The following sections highlight relevant collections, useful reference sources, and various means of access.
